What has brought me to where I am now

During my early years, not armed with the knowledge, wisdom and self-compassion I now possess, I developed a very negative and toxic relationship with my body. It consequently led me to a long and silent battle with an eating disorder that then cascaded into an array of health issues following next.

At the tender age of 14, I started modelling professionally in Brazil, where I’m originally from. Throughout this time I travelled the world, lived and worked in numerous countries and had a very different life experience than most of my childhood friends. The usual perception most people hold is one of glamour, travel adventures and not much hard work, which certainly can be elements of it, but in my 20+ years in the industry, I was able to navigate and witness many more facets that pertain to the modelling world.

During my early years, not armed with the knowledge, wisdom and self-compassion I now possess, I developed a very negative and toxic relationship with my body. It consequently lead me to a long and silent battle with an eating disorder that cascaded into an array of health issues following next. This silent battle was a daily reality for me for years and it affected every cell in my physical body, mind and spirit. It took me reaching a physical and mental breakdown to finally acknowledge that living like that was NOT an option any longer.

I initially took a more conventional approach to my ailments and looked for professionals specialised in treating each issue separately.  For my cystic acne, I saw dermatologists and skin therapists. For my digestive disturbances, gastroenterologists. For my anxiety, body image/eating disorder, I saw psychologists and dieticians. For my never-ending sinus issues, I saw ENT doctors and so on… the approach and results were pretty much the same:

lab tests, medications, antibiotics, ointments, diets, followed by short-lived remission of symptoms, leading to a worsening of it after a period of time and leaving me incredibly confused and frustrated with my own body.

These conventional approaches were NOT looking at what was causing these issues in the first place. Simply put, they were aimed at suppressing the symptoms.

By nature, I am an individual that likes to get to the bottom of things, so I realised that I needed to start connecting the dots myself and be open to what other options were out there. After all, what did I have to lose? It was then that everything completely changed in my life. I consciously searched for holistic, integrative and functional professionals as well as information that isn’t largely discussed or taught in most nutrition schools. I went on to study in some of the best institutes in the nutritional and coaching arena and apply what I was learning in my own life as well as help those close to me. The more I failed in my quest for answers, the more I kept trying and the more I succeeded, the more I wanted to learn from it.

I’ve learned many lessons along the way. I am grateful and humbled by what life has taught me and continues to teach me as I walk on this path. I now know that one physiological system in the body affects others and that it is a network with constant crosstalk, sharing of common pathways and information. Our history, beliefs, diet, relationships, methods of self-care all impact our physiology and beyond. Everything is connected. The one size fits all approach, which is a predominant feature in our conventional health care system, views everyone as the same. It applies the same treatment protocol to every person based on similar symptoms, but it fails to honour the uniqueness of each individual or help them understand themselves better.
Healing on all levels; physical, mental and spiritual is an ever-evolving art and is totally intertwined. In my view, true long term success in our quest for answers to what afflicts us comes from the understanding and integration of these 3 elements in our everyday life. I will certainly not claim that I have mastered all these elements, I’m not sure that anyone that lives in this plane of existence can make that claim, but I can however proudly say that I have mastered the art of remaining curious, open to learning and expanding as well as sharing this knowledge with others.

Currently, I enjoy a loving relationship with myself and my body, the persistent ailments I once had, are not a feature in my daily life or are just not a part of my life at all. The many hats I wear (as do we all) and the people who play different roles in my life, like as a mother to my beautiful son, a wife to my amazing husband, a daughter to extraordinary parents, a sister, a friend, an entrepreneur and so on give me the profound motivation to see those around me thrive in their lives.
The work towards inner growth creates without a doubt a ripple effect that can transform the world one person at a time.
The famous Mahatma Gandhi quote: “ Be the change you want to see in the world” never gets old to me, there is so much wisdom and truth in it. My mission is to use the knowledge, personal experience, life & nutrition coaching skills, unique tools I now possess to help others access their innate wisdom, reconnect with their mind, body and spirit so they can connect the dots of their own journey and reclaim their power.
Now, without further ado, let’s get to work and create together the change we wish to see in the world, shall we? ❤️❤️
